I am always inspired by the Colombian people. Despite all their difficulties through some turbulent times they remain happy and positive, Their helpfulness, their warm-heartedness is truly inspiring, for example, when one is invited to a traditional meal prepared on firewood, when they simply share all they have, it is just one of the many humbling and gratifying experiences I have been fortunate to encounter whilst living in this country.
Constantly impressed by the spectacular and diverse natural landscape of Colombia. There are crystal-clear rivers on whose shores the diversity of species in the gigantic trees proliferates, and colorful birds sing in abundance. Colombia offers so much variety: snow-capped mountains, volcanoes, grasslands, deserts, rainforest and high moors (páramos). Added to this, the cultural diversity: Eighty-seven ethnic groups live here and sixty-eight languages are spoken.
Colombia has many tourist attractions. Away from these attractions there are many authentic places where we still see life as it has always been. A magical place of cultural diversity from which I gain great pleasure sharing with visitors and residents alike.
Sitting in a marketplace, casually watching the locals, accepting their spontaneous invitations, visiting friends in their homes ... that level of intimacy with the locals experienced during everyday Colombian life, these are the special adventures that I particularly like to share on my tours.
Of course, you should not miss the tourist attractions: places of interest, famous spots from the guide books, the most popular beaches and the waterfalls, which all merit a visit from tourists, these are the main attractions in Colombia. Sometimes these places get overcrowded and there are less time-consuming options and less well known alternatives, that are just as enjoyable, I am always happy to offer local knowledge to assist you in your travel planning.
I have lived in Colombia since 2008, in this time my enthusiasm for the extremely friendly people of Colombia, the diverse nature and landscape has grown, allowing me to gain vast local knowledge that I am privileged to share with guests on versatile, customized trips throughout Colombia.
When I travel with you through the countryside, I feel a great responsibility for the locals, who (through sharing and responsible tourism) give you the opportunity to support their families, preserve their culture and protect the natural environment.
On a city tour through Medellin, my new hometown, you will sense the pride I feel for the almost impossible achievements made in the transformation of this once infamous city into a peaceful and innovative place, now famous for its passion and creativity.
The greatest gift for me is when I see the excitement reflected in your faces, when we enjoy the silence of the mountains, breathing in the sweet smell of the rainforest, drifting through historical sites, watching birds and whales, sharing a meal with the locals or visiting innovative projects to improve the living situation of urban slums.
It is with great pleasure that I share my experience of life here, with all its differences, the ups and downs, and the conflicts that inevitably confront us within a foreign culture.
In my past I worked as a computer economist also working as a consultant for large companies in Germany. I then traveled overland from Germany to Nepal for a period of a year. I learnt to speak Russian in St. Petersburg, worked as a teacher in Mongolia, travelled through China and Tibet, helped build schools and libraries in Nepal. Following those experiences and lessons, I worked as project manager and management in various European countries. Eleven years ago I traveled through Colombia by chance and it was here in Medellin I put down my roots.
How? and why? is a story of its own, and if your interested then I would love to tell you - on your journey with me.
